If you are constantly propping your phone against a coffee cup at your desk, at a restaurant table, or in an airplane seat, there is a better way, and it costs less than lunch. Pete’s verdict is right there in the video title: this foldable stand is shockingly good. The UGREEN fully foldable phone stand is an ultra-thin aluminum stand that folds completely flat, and it solves the hands-free phone problem with an overbuilt confidence that cheap plastic stands never manage.
Watch the video above for the hands-on tour, then read on for the full breakdown: what it is made of, how it adjusts, where it actually gets used, and the small things worth knowing before you buy.
What it is
The UGREEN foldable phone stand is a desktop phone holder built from aluminum alloy instead of the flimsy plastic most stands use. UGREEN’s listing describes a stable triangular structure, and that is the whole trick: you can tap, swipe, and type on the screen without the stand wobbling, sliding, or tipping over. It is rated for devices up to 7.9 inches, so it covers every phone on the market plus small tablets and e-readers. You can grab the UGREEN phone stand on Amazon.
The headline feature is the fold. The whole stand collapses down to a flat slab you can slide into a laptop bag, a jacket pocket, or a carry-on. That sounds like a gimmick until you travel with it, at which point it becomes the thing you wonder how you lived without.
Build quality and adjustability
1. Solid aluminum, not plastic. This is the difference between this stand and the five-dollar specials. Aluminum alloy arms on durable hinges give it a reassuring heft, and the triangular geometry keeps the load centred. UGREEN rates the maximum load at 350 g, which is roughly double the weight of the heaviest phones with a case on.
2. Real adjustability. The stand adjusts in both angle and height, so you can dial in a comfortable viewing position instead of accepting whatever fixed tilt a cheap stand gives you. UGREEN’s retail listings quote 120 to 162 mm of height adjustment, which is enough range to raise the screen to near eye level on a desk and kill the neck-craning.
3. A charging notch. There is a cutout in the cradle for a charging cable, so you can dock the phone and charge it at the same time without the cable fighting the stand. It works in both portrait and landscape orientation.
4. Folds flat for travel. Open, it is a proper desk stand. Folded, it is a thin metal slab. That dual personality is the entire point of the product, and it is why this beats every rigid stand for anyone who moves around.
Where it actually gets used
On a desk, it turns your phone into a proper second screen for notifications, timers, and music controls, at a viewing angle that does not wreck your posture. For video calls, it puts the camera at a far more flattering angle than a phone lying flat on the table, which your coworkers will quietly appreciate. In the kitchen it holds a recipe at readable height with messy hands nowhere near the screen. And on the road, it folds flat into a bag and gives you a stable stand for hotel-room video watching or video calls from anywhere.
Small things worth knowing
This is a stand, not a charger. There is no MagSafe, no wireless charging, no power delivery, just a very good piece of bent metal with a cable cutout. That is exactly right for the price, but buy it for what it is. It is also sized for phones and small tablets up to 7.9 inches, so do not expect it to hold a full-size iPad. And like any friction-hinge product, the hinges are the long-term wear point if you fold and unfold it several times a day for years, though aluminum hinges age far better than plastic ones.
Verdict
Shockingly good is the right call. The UGREEN foldable phone stand takes the simplest possible product, a thing that holds your phone up, and executes it with materials and adjustability that feel like they belong on something three times the price. If you use your phone hands-free at a desk, on calls, or while travelling, this is one of the easiest upgrades you can buy.
