The quick verdict
The Exo Runt titanium lighter from TiSurvival is the smallest serious lighter I have found: a two-piece titanium capsule barely bigger than the insert it holds, sealed with an O-ring so it is waterproof and the fuel stays put for months. Pull the lighter insert out and the same shell becomes a watertight pill fob. I bought it as the backup lighter for my EDC organizer, and it is exactly the set-it-and-forget-it fire starter I wanted.

Two tools in one titanium shell
The clever part of the Exo Runt is that it is two products sharing one body. Use it as a lighter and the flint-wheel insert lives inside the titanium shell. Do not need the lighter? Remove the insert entirely, and the empty shell is a watertight, airtight pill fob for medication or small essentials. You can swap back and forth any time, so the same tiny capsule covers two jobs in a kit where every gram counts. I went with the stonewashed finish because I wanted something understated, but TiSurvival offers a bunch of finishes.
Size and build
Lined up against a Bic, it is hard to believe this thing is a lighter. Outside dimensions are 49.5 by 15.5 mm, the interior measures 38.4 by 11 mm, and the whole thing weighs just one ounce with fluid in it. The body is two titanium halves that screw together with genuinely nice threading, and there is a 3 mm lanyard hole if you want to run a cord through it. It is small enough to disappear into a pouch slot, which is exactly where mine lives: it rides in my Maxpedition Micro pocket organizer as the backup to a Bic.
Why the O-ring seal matters
Between the two titanium halves sits an O-ring, and it does two important jobs. First, it makes the lighter waterproof: get it wet, and it will still work. Second, and just as valuable in a backup lighter, it locks the fuel in. Sealed up, the Exo Runt does not lose fuel the same way, so a lighter you filled and stashed in your kit should still be ready when you reach for it. For an emergency or backup lighter, that reliability is the entire point.
How it works and how to fill it
Inside is a traditional flint-and-wick setup. The wick is nice and stiff, with what feels like metal in it to help it hold its shape, and the flint wheel gives you the spark. To fill it, pull the insert out of the shell by the small gap at the top, and do not push it in too tight on reassembly or it is tough to get back out. Under the wick is cotton batting: stand the insert up, expose the cotton, and drip lighter fluid onto it a drop at a time until it is right at capacity. Put something underneath while you fill, because a little dripping is normal, and wipe the exterior clean before you slide the insert home, leaving that small gap at the top so you can extract it next time.
Fuel capacity is small, obviously, but the burns add up. As long as you are not holding the flame for extended periods, one fill lights it a good number of times, and when you strike it you get a surprisingly healthy flame for something this tiny. A few seconds at a time is all it is built for, and a quick blow puts it out.
Who this lighter is for
Let me be clear about what this is not: it is not a heavy-use, all-day lighter, and it is not trying to be. The Exo Runt is a fill-it, seal-it, forget-it backup. It belongs in an EDC organizer, a survival kit, a glove box or a travel bag, anywhere you want guaranteed fire in the smallest possible footprint. And on the days you would rather carry medication than a lighter, the same shell converts to a pill fob in seconds.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Extremely small at 49.5 mm long and one ounce fueled
- O-ring seal makes it waterproof and stops fuel evaporating in storage
- Converts from lighter to watertight pill fob by removing the insert
- Titanium build with clean threading and a 3 mm lanyard hole
- Bigger, healthier flame than you would expect from the size
Cons
- Small fuel capacity, so it is a backup, not a primary lighter
- Built for a few seconds of flame at a time
- The insert is fiddly to remove if you seat it too tightly
- Filling takes a little patience, drop by drop
FAQ
How big is the Exo Runt?
The outside measures 49.5 by 15.5 mm, the interior is 38.4 by 11 mm, and it weighs about one ounce with fuel inside. It is dramatically smaller than a standard Bic.
Is the Exo Runt waterproof?
Yes. The two titanium halves are sealed with an O-ring, so the lighter shrugs off getting wet, and the same seal makes the empty shell a watertight pill fob.
Does the fuel evaporate like a regular petrol lighter?
Much more slowly. The O-ring seal locks the fuel in, so a filled Exo Runt stored in your kit should still be fueled when you need it.
What fuel does the Exo Runt use?
Standard liquid lighter fluid. Stand the insert up to expose the cotton batting and add fluid a drop at a time until it is just at capacity, being careful not to overfill.
Final verdict
The Exo Runt is a super cool buy for anyone building a compact everyday carry kit. It is not the lighter you reach for twenty times a day, it is the one that is still fueled, still dry and still ready the one time you actually need it. Add the pill fob conversion and the titanium build, and it earns its tiny slot in my organizer easily.
